Question:
Vertical Band Versus RNY
From all the research I have done so far, it seems to me that the RNY is more benefical than the VB. I've read that the VB surgery can develop staple line seperation, and or the band can weaken over time, causing a person to overeat, and start gaining. I am in favor of the RNY, because it's seems to be the decision for me. Having a major surgery is risky in itself, but I don't want to have to be opened up again to correct a problem. Please, I would like to hear from both VB and RNY paitients, and your success, probs., with each surgery. Please e-mail me if you want. [email protected] — Jennifer C. (posted on February 15, 2001)

Yes, I heard the same things. I studied alot and settled on the RNY. That
was just over 10 months ago. I have never vomited. I still love food but
am satisfied with just a small amount. I feel good, healthy, and
"normal" finally. I've had no regrets. When people observe me
eating a meal, it is not obvious that I've done something drastic. I just
avoid fried foods, breads, and desserts. I take vitamins every morning and
am very happy with my results. I've gone from 275 to 173 and I've
5'7". If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
