Question:
Does anyone have any information on Mailhandler Insurance?
My sister is interested in WLS but has had two heart-attacks and doesn't know if her insurance will cover WLS. — Patricia B. (posted on January 10, 2001)

I have Mailhandlers Insurance and they approved me within 3 days with
virtually no co-moribidities (pain in ankles, knees, back problems only).
They payed 100% except for about $270.00 of the anaesthesiologist. Any
questions, please e-mail me privately at [email protected]

I have Mail Handler's insurance and the surgery coordinator at my doctors
office said approval is a done deal if I meet the national standards for
surgery. BMI of 40 with no co-morbids or BMI 35 with co-morbidities. He
barely glanced at my insurer's name and said I'm as good as approved, which
is a good thing cause I have diabetes and am having all sorts of trouble
with it.

I have an update. Mailhandlers approved me. My doctor's office is a bit
confused about how to handle this insurance. The lady over insurance at
docs office said they wanted $980 (10% of his fee) in advance and I had to
pay the hospital in advance with my maximum 'out of pocket' limit. In all
it was going to be $2,500 before surgery!!!
Mail handlers said no such thing. The contract with the doctor states he
cannot bill me before the surgery. First the surgery, then he bills
insurance company and only then he can bill me. Also, if you have the high
option you pay zero for the hospital. So I shouldn't pay more than $980
AFTER the surgery with the exception of the anesthesia (10% in network).
You really have to check things out. People will either be disorganized or
try to get away with whatever they can.
Yeah! You don't have to tell me, I already know I'm cheap. LOL
Best wishes to all here on your journey to good health. :)
