Question:
I went off my Birth Control Pills 6 weeks ago to reduce the risk of blood clots

I hear most women get their periods again while in the hospital. When can I start taking the bc again, and will it regulate my period right away like normal. Thanks    — enjo4 (posted on October 19, 2000)

Erin- I am looking for the same answer. I am having the surgery on November 6th. Jamelle, birth control pills can cause blood clots in people who don't have surgery and increase the chances of them after surgery for those who do.

I am one year post-op and did stop my birth control pills prior to surgery (I can not remember how long prior to surgery my surgeon had me stop them). I did not get my period in the hospital and it didn't start for a couple months after surgery. I called my obgyn and she had me restart them even though I hadn't had a period. They normalized immediately.
