Question:
Is it natural to have the feeling that something is going to spoil your surgery date?

I have my surgery date of 10/18/00. I had most of my pre-op testing done last week then I had to have a nuclear stress test done because I have heart disease. I finished that today, then I get a call from my primary doctor asking me to have a chest cat scan because she saw a density in the chest x-ray. She said it was probably just something from my heart surgery I had in 1996, but now I worry that something will go wrong with the cat scan or the stress test and I won't be able to have wls surgery. I have no symptons of anything wrong and I didn't have any problems with the stress test, but I keep feeling like something is going to go wrong before surgery.    — Char B. Hi Charmaine: Before having surgery, I tore the meniscus in my right knee and underwent six weeks of therapy. Everything was healing really well. One day, while painting my porch - I was done with the final stroke of paint - I tripped over the paint can and fell to my bad knee. I was seeing stars and paint was all over the place. I thought for sure this was it...that I finally cracked the kneecap and I would have to have knee surgery to walk again. I sat there in the midst of the paint and the pain, crying and sobbing, while my concerned 12 year-old daughter cleaned up the mess. Finally, I picked myself up, and found out I just really, really bruised the knee. So, yes, I think it's very normal to be afraid something will interfere with surgery, no matter how big or small...I wish you the best for a great outcome! Hugs and Prayers!

I believe it is very normal, I had surgery on 9/18/00 and I thought I was getting a cold, then my son camd down with strept throat, I just knew I would get it. All were unnecessary worries because everything went fine. Good luck and God Bless you will be just fine.

Char, I know exactly how you feel! My surgery is 10/19/00 and I have to stop myself from entertaining such pessimistic thoughts. I was even going to go to my pcp's to get some antibiotics just in case I might catch something. I had to force myself to stop thinking that way. Jesus told me He would take me through this, and to worry would be unfaithful. I KNOW that this is God's will, and you know what? I feel very safe about the whole thing. Like I said, I didn't always feel that way, some days (when I was waiting for insurance approval) I almost felt like I was having an anxiety attack! But I survived, and all is well. Charmaine you have come this far, do not worry any longer. Just relax and fantasize about the new you. That is my fav pastime right now!!! God Bless you Charmaine.

Is called Murphy's Law anything that can go wrong will go wrong. I didn't believe I was having surgery until I was on the table. I just knew something was going to wrong before i had surgery where it would have to be postponed. But it didn't happen. i think it is natural.

I too thought that something was going to happen to postpone my surgery or cancel it alltogether. Up until the day that I had it I just knew that something was going to happen to screw it up for me. Don't worry nothing will happen and you will be just fine. I kept thinking that my insurance had screwed up and made a mistake because they said you had to have co-morbidities and be at least 100 lbs overweight, I was that much overweight but I didn't have any major medical problems. DON'T WORRY about it, you don't need the added stress :-)
