Question:
New ideas on what to eat after 5 days post-op
Please help me with ideas on what to eat. I'm so sick of broth, jello, juice. Is there any one with ideas on what's ok to eat? Thank you, Christine — Christine H. (posted on September 17, 2000)

Try sugar-free popsicles and some Diet Snapple, herbal tea (hot or iced).
Yes, the clear liquids can get very boring. In my case, I was on clear
liquids for 10 days. Hang in there. The "liquids only" stage
will be over before you know it.

Here is a link to a webpage I set up detailing what I ate the first 8
weeks.. <a

Food List first 8 weeks
after 4 weeks I liked to
make my own soups and stews then blend it which was much more
flavorful and more protein that canned soup or broth..

eat or drink whatever your Doctor or Nutritional counslor told you to do.
But I agree with Victoria making your own soups -strain for broth- taste a
whole lot better. Chin up I was on liquids for 4 weeks!

I agree...best to check with your dr. I was on liquids for two weeks and
SLOWLy reitroduced soft, solid foods. It *will* be over before you know
it, but remember this is a change for life...you've got all the time in the
world, so don't rush it.

It IS funny how much variation there is among Doctors... I didn't begin
eating AT ALL til my 6th post-op day. My first food was Cream of Wheat,
then Cream of Mushroom soup, that was actually IN the hospital. I was on
soft foods til 3 weeks post, then released to eat anything except lettuce,
fresh fruit & stringy vegetables. I WAS told to introduce foods slowly
& in small amounts & the ever popular chew, chew, chew. I also have
had very few problems with foods & apparently don't dump. I know one of
the foods on my list for the first couple weeks was frozen sugar-free
yogurt. I couldn't find any in stores, but later found out TCBY has
sugar-free yogurt & it tastes wonderful! It's no substitute for protein
sources, of course. You might see what your Dr has to say about that.
