Question:
has anyone had their flu and pneumonia shots right before surgery?
Please let me know what your Dr. said! I forgot to ask mine and I'm suppose to get mine tomorrow. Thanks, Pat [email protected] Surgery:Oct.10,2000 Dr.John P. Maguire.,Kettering, OH BPD/DS :) — Pat J. (posted on September 7, 2000)

I did get mine prior to surgery, since I certainly didn't want to come down
with the flu afterwards. If I remember right I got mine maybe 6 weeks
before. Check with your doctor, but I would think you just want some
recovery time if they make you ill.

I had a pneumonia shot in November 99 and surgery was 12/8/99.. My PCP
covered it with the surgeon first and he saw no problems. Might ask one of
the members that have had BPD/DS if their is any reason why you can't
also..

I had mine 10 days prior to surgery and sweated it out-figured it would be
better than getting sick following surgery. I never had one problem. I
recommend it.

Is the flu vaccine available in your area? I work at a medical
university/health care system and we have been notified by CDC that the flu
vaccine has problems this year and they have been unable to produce the
normal amounts of vaccine. Apparently they are having a problem culturing
a certain strain. They release from CDC said that the vaccine would not be
available until November. I don't think there is a problem taking the
vaccine before surgery and I personally feel it would be good for ME if it
was available. My understanding...is this is nationwide...not just in the
south.
