Question:
Just called my surgeons office to check on approval for surgery
I spoke with the one secretary that handles all this. After insurance approval, the files are sent to the nutritionist who calls you and starts to set up all the appointments. (they don't even think about giving you a surgery date till they have approval, so they also wait for approval before they set up all the preop appointments).Well, when I spoke with the secretary, she told me that she was 99% sure that my insurance approved and that the nutritionist had my file and will be calling me within the next few days to start setting up the appointments. I asked her if I would receive anything in writing about the approval, and she didn't know if my insurance sent an approval letter, but that she thinks she remembers giving my file to the nutritionist. I am too skeptical to believe it now. Also, I am getting a little nervous, because now, if in fact I have been approved, it means that this is really happening for me!!!! I AM TERRIFIED!!! Before it seemed like such a fantasy, now it is real!! Not to mention that I must be a medical risk if I stay this weight, since the insurance approved on the first letter. Anyone else feel this way and how long should I wait for the nutritionist to call me??? Thanks — enjo4 (posted on August 7, 2000)

Erin:
Call your insurance company and tell them you'd like to check on the status
of your surgeon's request to perform the surgery on you. They should be
able to verbally inform you of the approval, and then ask if they'll be
mailing you out a letter of approval. I hope its true also!
