Question:
Has anyone else had major constipation after 3 weeks out?
I had an open RNY on June 8th and I am now having major constipation. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if so just what exactly did you do about it? I have been getting plenty of water and I am walking about 2 miles every other day. I don't want to have to take a laxative all the time and I hate prune juice. So now what? — Leslie D. I had constipation for about 2 months post op. I wouldn't go for 5 days,
then boom all heck broke loose. It will eventually even out and become
normal. I still have some problems, but for the most part, the
constipation has ended. I gave myself a couple fleet enema's when I had the
problem and then felt fine.

Leslie, I had constipation before surgery and still have
problems now. My doc reccommends Citracil daily although I have not been
using it. I use glycerin suppossitories and Correctal ocassionally. I eat
lots for fresh vegs from garden and try to get my fluids in. Open RNY
1/13/00, down 75 pounds, only 15-20 pounds to get to goal. Lou Ann

My dietician says that grape juice can also act as a laxative.
You might want to give that a try. You might also try Citricel
or Metamucil. Your constipation is probably a result of getting
alot less fiber than before surgery.

Try eating roasted, unsalted soy beans or soy "nuts" as some
stores call them. I had a terrible problem until a friend bought some for
me. They really work!!
