Question:
How long should a Open RNY patient have tenderness/pain?

I am 9 weeks post op and I still have pain along my incision and tenderness in my stomach. How long will it take for some of this discomfort to go away?    — [Anonymous] (posted on June 10, 2000)

I'm not sure about the Open RNY incision pain, since mine isn't until this Friday, but when I had my C-section 3 years ago I had a midline incision which is the up and down way. I remeber it being VERY tender for quite sometime. Even to this day the area is a little "touchy". I spoke with a friend of mine who said she still has some sensitivity on her scar after 7 years! Let's hope it's different for the RNY scar.

I am 10 weeks postop and still feel the tenderness like you do. Some people just heal faster than others and we are not one of those fast healers. I still cannot even lie on my side when I sleep and have problems with friction sores on my incision. Hang it there. It might be a while for us but I am sure it will get better. Keep smiling!

It takes awhile before the tenderness goes away. I know for about two and a half months I did not even want to have sex because the thought of someone getting on my stomach where my cut was made me sick. Talk to your doctor and see what he says. Have you been doin any type of strenous exercises?
