Question:
I'm curious, how soon after having the RNY can you bathe?

I had a wonderful spongebath the next morning by a nurse...and the next I
took a shower, that was really hard, but it felt great.

I had sponge baths the first two days and showered on the third day and
every day after.. I told the nurses I wanted to shower they permitted
it, however, they first applied a clear tissue thin wide plastic material
over the entire incision, gauze and drain. Also a smaller one on my back
where the epidural site was..This sealed out any water and came off right
after I finished showering.. They gave me extra ones to take home with
me until staples and drain removed. After those were removed I just used
a tight Band-Aid over the drain hole until it was healed completely, then
resumed regular baths..

Hello there ....
I had my surgery on a Monday, the staples were removed on Thursday and I
was allowed to shower.
I had an open RNY.
Good Luck

I took a shower one day after my surgery at the hospital, and it felt so
good! I have never had a problem. I don't recommend using the tub at home
for a while because it will be very difficult for you to get in and out.
For home, I purchased a shower attachment like the one many people have at
their kitchen sinks. It was $20 at Bed Bath and Beyond and Beyond and
controls the water to come out when you want and how strong you want it.
It is also very useful in reaching "down under" without straining
yourself. When showering it is very important not to spray the water
directly on the incision until it has healed.
