Question:
has anyone had the surgery while on ssi in illinois?

i am fighting to get on ssi and hope to have the surgery. i am now 20 years old and over 400 lbs. when i get on medicare will they pay for it? please help.. alondra    — alondralouise2 (posted on May 16, 2000)

From what I understand about Medicare covering the obesity surgery, you must have physical problems that are related to the morbid obesity. I believe that it must be that way in every state as Medicare is government funded and controlled. You will not be given an answer if Medicare will cover your surgery until AFTER it is over. It is the only insurer that is like that. You might want to call Social Security Administration and ask them some questions about it all.
