Question:
I'm 41 with type ll diabetes, and on 345units of 70/30 insylin,rezulin, glue.pills.

Every day. These med. are for the diabetes only. I also have many other health problems and would like to know if this surgery ever "cures" this. 1.enlarged left side of heart 2.Blood pressure 3.alot of side effects with nerves (from the typelldiabetes) 4.breathing,c-pat,asma 5.spine is deterating. I will stop for now any help would be helpful.    — [Anonymous] (posted on March 7, 2000)

I have type 2 diabetes as well, and my surgeon (I haven't had surgery yet) said that approximately 80% of all type 2 diabetics become asymptomatic after surgery, and ALL have others have significantly reduced need for meds. There is no official "cure" for diabetes, but this surgery certainly gives many of us type 2's a lot of HOPE. Hope this helps some.

There is hope!! Like you, I have type two diabetes and high blood pressure...on 9 different meds plus night time insullin...losing the feeling in both feet..very quickly. I had the surgery 2/2/2000...within 10 days my sugar is normal as was my blood pressure..and with no meds!! The only thing i take now is a vitamin!! Yes this surgery is a Godsend....I have not regained the feeling in my feet yet...may never because of the nerve damage..but I stoped it from progressing...I am 46. I have lost 36 pounds in 5 weeks. Diabetes is the worst kind of killer. This surgery is a miracle...and although the weight loss is wonderful, halting the diabetes was the reason for me to proceed. E mail me if you want to chat about it. [email protected]

If you are morbidly obese and you have diabetes and high blood pressure, then sucessfull WLS will probably help those conditions.

I also HAD alot of these problems also. Uncontrolled diabetes type II and high blood pressure, My blood sugar ran around 200-400 everyday. I can say that since leaving the hospital after wls I have not needed ANY insulin at all. No more meds. No more shots. My sugar runs about 74 now. Any questions feel free to email me [email protected]

I also diabetic type II, taking meds for high blood pressure, stent placed in right coronary artery(3 wks before wls) major back problems that doctor wants to do surgery on when lose more weight. Also have problems in back of ankle that make me wear air cast all day. But good news!! blood test show diabetes is under control at 6.4pts. Anything under 7 the doctor said no meds necessary. Yeah!!!!blood pressure under control too. So there is light at end of tunnel. Im at a plateau it seems, not sure the cause. hang in there.......
