who are and how do you become an angel?

I came across this question on the support page and noticed no one had answered it yet. It's something I have been wondering about too. Can someone tell us who and what it is and how you get one?

An angel is someone who offers to check in on you during your surgery and report to the group how you are doing. Mostly done through the OSSG sites, you can become and angel by volunteering to be one for someone who has had their surgery scheduled. It is usually someone who is near you, so you can check in in person, but is sometimes someone fa away who just checks in by phone.
