Question:
I had the operation on April 5, 1999. Why is it so hard to lose the weight?
It has been five months and I have only went from 330 to 275 It has not been so easy. Has anyone else had this problem? Is it still possible to lose the weight? — Laura B. (posted on September 7, 1999)

Hey, 55 pounds is not bad. Could you have done this on your own? I know i
couldn't.

With the VBG, the weight loss will be slower and
not as much as with a RNY. Which kind of surgery did you have?

I'm still pre-op and I just want to incourage you to stay with it. To me 55
lbs. off sounds pretty good. I know this surgery is suppoes to help us shed
pounds swiftly. Can you talk to a nutritionist or your doctor for help. I
wish you all the best. Marge

Hmm Perhaps you need to talk with your doctor and his dietician if he
staffs one. What type of surgery did you have? What are you eating? Are
you eating protein first before anything else? Compare notes with your doc
and perhaps he/she may be able to provide suggestions however 55 lbs lost
in 4.5 months is not at all shabby. Sounds like you're doing pretty well
actually!

You did not mention which procedure you had done. Also,
are you drinking plenty of water and exercising? By five
months out I had lost 86 pounds (from 274 to 188) but was
also on my first plateau. I would recommend checking with
your doctor.

Hi, Laura--What does your doctor say about your weight loss?
My dr. tells me I should lose about 15 pounds per month (I had open
RNY)--what did your dr. say? Are you getting PLENTY of protein and water?
Also, exercise is important. I, too, started at 334, but have lost 50
pounds in about 2 months. I hope you will go back to your dr. and ask for
help--maybe a dietician visit, or blood work to determine if everything's
o.k. GOod luck--don't give up hope! Your and your dr. together can solve
this--Charlene

Hi Laura: What type of surgery did you have? What is your typical diet for
a day? Try to write down everything that you put into your mouth for a day
or two and then add up the calories that you are consuming. Sometimes if
you have it in front of you , you can see what you are doing and change a
few things. You've come along great so far. Lets see if we can figure out
what's going on. I had an open RNY distal with a 1cc micro pouch 17mo. ago
today. I have lost 159# so far. It isn't easy but you can do it. The closer
you get to goal the slower it comes off too. Let me know. I can also answer
any questions you may have from my experiences. I am extremely pleased with
my results and would do it again in a second!!Good Luck Jan Terry
