Question:
I recently was re-hospitalized due to obstruction...any suggestions on food?
I am afraid to start eating again due to the horrible experience I had. My doctor was wonderful to help me out, but Im not sure what the best food is to eat. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on the food that they find pretty easy to handle post op. I am 2 months post op and prior to around 2 weeks ago was progressing normally to a solid diet, that is when I had the complication. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. — anne H. I had the bowel obstruction too about 2 weeks after the initial surgery. I
had to start from scratch, liquids only for a bit. I am still trying to
heal! Just take it slow.

Was it an obstruction or did the otlet of your stomach close up? If it was
acually food that blocked the outlet than I dont have an answere, but if
your outlet closed up than I do. I was rehospitalized 3 weeks post op also.
The outlet closed up. If this was your problem than food has nothing to do
with it. It has happened to me 5 times. I hope this is not your case.
Sorry if I have been of no help! hang in there!

everyone is different, you will need to experiment with food. usually the
things that bother a lot of people are things like hot dogs (I can't eat
them) steak (I can eat hamburger) I have had a few bad experiences with
both. You need to just eat small little bites, if they go down and don't
cause you problems you will know what to stick with, with me even if I ate
just a little it would cause my stomach to hurt like I over ate, so those
were the things I stayed away from. Also try eating with a small sald
plate rather than a dinner plate and use a cocktail fork instead of a
dinner fork, it forces you to take small bites and then you may be able to
tolerate a little more variety. Good luck

Hi, I don't know if this will help, but here goes. I am also 2 months post
op( for RNY) and I am still eating baby food and drinking a protein drink
every day. I tried regular food for about 1 week and was so sick every day
I went back to baby food. The portions are about the right size and they
seem to not hurt either. The protein I mix in soy milk as dairy product
now bother me too. Just go slow and don't eat more than 3 ounces at a time.
That is what works for me any way. It seems like I am eating all of the
time but now I feel pretty good too. Good luck. Cheri
