Question:
Is there anyone out there that has had a close to perfect recovery?
No dumping, vomiting etc...or does everyone one go through these things at one time or other? — [Anonymous] (posted on July 9, 1999)

I have never had any problems. I never vomitted and there are really no
foods that bother me except milk and if I take lactaid I can tolerate that.
The only time I have ever dumped is when I accidently drank my husbands
mt. dew instead of my diet dew. My recovery was wonderful and I am 4 years
post-op and still have had no problems.
Good luck,
Lorinda

I have not had any problems, am almost 10 weeks post op. I always remind
myself to eat slow and chew really well. I have stayed away from fried
foods and large amounts of sugar. I have had a very small peice of
chocolate and that was fine. Skim milk has not bothered me at all. I have
had pizza, Chinese food, Indian food, ect. and it has sat fine. I cannot
eat buns or bread, it seems to get me full right away so I avoid that.
Toast is fine. Good Luck! Darlene

I had my surgery on 1/22/99 and I would say that I have had a ''close to
perfect'' recovery. I have never vomited, I do get a little nausea if I eat
too much and I have found that I can't tolerate dairy products, so I don't
overeat and I avoid dairy products.
I've only had one dumping reaction, it was 2 weeks after my surgery and I
had to drive 2 1/2 hours to pick up my horse, so I drank a carnation
instant breakfast before I left, it went through me in less than 15
minutes. I felt fine after I was through ''dumping''. I would have to say
that I feel 150% better than I did before the surgery.

I recovered nicely, I think. I did vomit if I overate or blocked, but
then, that's what I paid for. I do dump and I'm thankful right after every
incidence. It's hard to be thankful during! But if I didn't, I'd be up to
my eyeballs in sugar. And my fat would be back. No thanks. Make me sick
sometimes. That's why I DID this! My weight has been stable for 4 years,
so I'm a happy girl.

I've been very lucky and feel like I've had just about a perfect recovery.
My incision healed perfectly, I could walk the morning after surgery
(albeit bent over and kinda rickety and weak). I went back to work in about
2 and a half weeks (sit at a computer all day).
I found it a little tricky with the water and not drinking when you eat and
a few times drank too soon and didnt' exactly vomit... it's what I call
"unswallowing." Food and flood came up (but without wretching or
feeling sick) and I spit it out (my dog followed me around like I was a hot
snack dispenser there for a few days LOL).
I've had two instances of dumping that was from really BAD food choices:
chocolate ice cream soda (to celebrate my 70 pound loss... dumb thinking)
made me vomit all evening and I feel er "loose" for the next
three days. Another food incident of a highly sugared funnel cake and an
orange ade at a street fair did the same thing. I knew when I put it in my
mouth it was a risk but did I pay attention? Nooooooooooo!
I can now tell the instant I put that extra bite too much into my mouth and
I take it out usually. Sometimes I swallow it but dont' get sick but wish
I'd not done it.
I've lost 127 pounds in 7 months and feel like my whole life has changed
for the better.
Good luck to you

i had my lap,RNY,a year ago in june and my recovery really has been close
to perfect.i have NEVER had a problem with "dumping", and i can
eat anything i want,as long as i dont eat too much.if i do overeat,i sort
of burp up the excess instead of really vomiting.i havnt lost weight as
fast as some people but i havnt gained any either, and i'm still losing 1 to
3 lbs. a week.i'm VERY pleased with the way things have gone for me,so
far,and i wish everyone were so lucky.by the way,i've lost more than 90 lbs
and would like to lose 30 to 50 in the next year.my goal is between150 and
170. good luck!!

My recovery has been wonderful. I have only thrown up five times, and that
was because I ate to fast and did not chew. That was my fault and I have
learned from it.
I have had no complications at all. I have lost 62 pounds in 11 weeks.
