Question:
Upset stomach

After I have eaten sometimes I get sick to my stomach. All that comes up is a white foamy mess. I am 2 1/2 mo's post-op. Does anyone know that this could be? And how can I stop this.:( God bless.    — LilaDove (posted on September 1, 2005)

Its frothing, this usualy occurs when you eat too much, and or 2 fast. Im 2.5 years post op, and it still happens on occasion. With you being so soon post op, if it is happening frequently, you may be developing a stricture. You might want to call your surgeons nurse, and see if she feels you need to be scoped and dialated. My daughter had this happen at 2 weeks post op and need to be dialated, no biggy. Enjoy the Ride :0) Rosemary 300>150-150@goal and maintaining 2.5 years post op RNY

THAT IS FROM EATING TO FAST OR TO MUCH, I THINK WE'VE ALL DONE THAT. I'M 10 MONTHS OUT AND I HAD TO LEARN WHEN YOUR FULL YOUR FULL, SOME FOOD IS HARDER TO TELL AND SOMETIMES WHAT YOU COULD EAT LAST WEEK YOU CAN'T THIS WEEK. TRY TO SLOW DOWN AND CHEW, CHEW, CHEW...YOU WILL SOON LEARN WHAT MAKES YOU SICK AND WHY. GOOD LUCK, BY THE WAY IT GETS BETTER AND EASIER.

Yes, it is frothing. I had experience the same problems for a few months. My doc said it just happens to some of us as a side effect. Not that you've done something wrong. His advice was to drink warm water, yuck, or I had some warm tea. This helped to settle the stomach. It will pass in time.

I had the same problem and still do on occassion. Frothing is no fun. I found that if I measured my food and only ate 2 Tablespoons I had less of a problem. It is that last 1 or 2 bites that gets you. I have found that even now certain foods will cause frothing... bread is pure hell. Slow down, eat small bites (baby spoons are great for this). Good luck Kimberley www.thedresslady.com - look for the gastric bypass page

I had exactly the same problem. I found that I had to eat much less than they wanted me to be eating. I had trouble with water, even! Now I am a year post-op and I still can only eat a few ounces at a time, and only can eat two meals and one protien shake per day. If I eat more, I throw up white foam and feel terrible. You have to see what works for you. Also, I still cannot eat chicken or steak, because they both make me throw up white foam. Record what you eat and when you throw up, and you might be able to see what brings it on.

Some people say the frothing is from eating too much. My surgeon says it is caused during sleep or when you don't get enough fluids. A half hour before you eat, drink hot tea, clear broth, or some other hot fluid, and you shouldn't have that problem anymore. Good luck!

I'm 11 months post-op and this still happens to me when I experience DUMPING. I usually dump when I've eaten too much sugar or something too high in fat. It can happen from eating too much or too fast. Slow down and chew your food well (even if you have to count bites), no liquids with solid foods, monitor sugar and fat content of foods.
