Question:
How did you get MDIPA to approve your bariatric surgery?
MDIPA requires at least 6 months of written progress notes from doctors before they grant approval for surgery. I am having a hard time getting through to my doctor for help!!! I am in Maryland! This is insurance through the Federal Government! — Helen D. (posted on May 23, 2005)

I dont have an answer about MDIPA but I can tell you that BC/BS of Al has
the same rule as you stated above I can also tell you our state and local
goverments here in Al along with medicare get pushed straight through with
very little time invested in getting approval.

I had Optimum Choice which is affiliated with MDIPA, Mamsi etc. I went to
my doctor asked her to document that I was on a low carb low fat diet, and
to make monthly comments about how I was doing on my diet in regards to
weight loss or gain. If I was struggling to go ahead and state that if I
was compliant to put that in there. She made very brief notes one sentence
max. I was approved in 2 days. If you have nay other questions please
feel free to email me.
