Question:
does weight watchers count under medical diet asked by insurance?
I will soon have aetna traditional choice insurance and they require a diet history under doctors care or nutritionist and I was wondering if anyone used weight watchers history successfully? — helloanna (posted on May 2, 2005)

Each insurance is different, you will have to ask them.

It depends on your insurance policy. General speaking, a medically
supervised diet is one that your doctor recommends to you and
follows/tracks your progress on through nutritional counseling, exercise
counseling and weekly or monthly weigh-ins. My insurance (UHC/POS) would
not accept WW as a stand alone diet. They wanted to see my diet progress
through reading my doctor's clinical notes. Good luck!

I do believe your doctor's reccomendation would go a long way, but to be on
the safe side if the doctor doesn't know the answer about Weight Watchers,
just call the insurance company and ask them. After all, they are suppose
to be the experts on what your policy will & will not cover. Good luck
to you!!! Weight loss surgery is the most wonderful gift from God.

Did for me! If you have documentation from WW that can't hurt. I had MANY
previous attempts at losing weight and just listed as many as I could
remember and had no trouble - but as you can tell, it varies a lot.
Good luck!

It did for mine. I used my Jenny Craig and it got me approved...
