Question:
anyone have humana HMO policy and able to have the surgery anyway?
it states in my policy for humana (hmo),that it will not cover any treatment to reduce obesity including but not limited to,surgical procedures.but,in the policy book that was sent states only if medically neccessary. — danaejo (posted on April 16, 2005)

It sounds like if your primary doctor sent a letter stating the absolute
medical necessity for obesity surgery, Humana may just approve it. Go to
your doc, give it a shot.

I have Humana HMO and had to fight to get mine and two other people's
approved. I ended up contacting the State of Missouri Dept of Insurance
Commission to help me get it through. They were great. Now, two years
post op and I have left that job and still on COBRA with them. They will
not self insure and I am having trouble getting post op coverage.
Good-luck and I hope you can get yours authorized. I would do it all over
again in a heartbeat.
