Question:
Anyone craving salt
I am craving salt like htere is no tomorrow. I have had more popcorn int he lasty month than in my lifetime. I get up and I want salt. I don't want to eat ANYTHING but salt. Could this mean something is wrong? — Rebecca K. (posted on December 30, 2004)

i am exactly the same way except i crave saltine crackers- seems like
that's all i ever eat- am very careful however to drink enough protein and
take all my vitamins and all my labs are great- very strange though- at
least we're not craving sugar!

I know exactly what you mean too, only I crave pork rinds! My New Year's
resolution is to give them up but it's not going to be an easy one!

I crave salt, too. My advice would be to try satisfying that craving with
peanuts or other salted nuts - lots of protein and the salt you crave.

Please get your lytes checked. Since potassium can control your heart, as
well as other things, it's good to know where you stand ASAP. Might be
that you've acquired a taste for it. Or not. But testing will tell you.

I always crave salt around "that time of the month" not
chocolate, but salt. Also, now my BP gets alittle low, before surgery it
ran high, anyhow, my doctor told me to eat something salty when my bp goes
low. Don't know that one has anything to do with the other.

I have been craving salt myself. I put salt on everything. The other day,
I seriously thought about putting salt in a protein drink I was about to
have. *laughs* And, whoever said it is right. At least it isn't sugar.

I too crave salt! I am 12 days post op. The nutritionest says its the rapid
changes, including water weight loss. I am still on a pureed diet, but am
allowed to add salt.
sometimes I crave salt so much I could just lick the salt shaker ... lol!

I too crave salt, but did pre op so figure they are not related. Does
anyone elses doctor tell them to NEVER EVER eat popcorn again due to the
risk of causing a blockage?

I am not post-op and I don't crave salt (yet). BUT I was told by my
surgeon & dietician that we are NEVER to eat popcorn or gum again due
to the fact that it cac cause serious blockage which you would need
immediate surgery for. I am having surgery in 23 days!

I'm two years post op and have been craving mild banana pepper rings since
my surgery. I eat two to three jars of these a week! My mouth waters for
these just thinking about them. All my blood work is fine and the results
of all that sodium hasn't bothered me.

On the never popcorn or gum for life... My wife chews gum and we both eat
popcorn. Early on EITHER can be serious trouble, but after awhile both
appear OK. My wife has swallowed her gum withpout troble accidently. Almost
ANY food can cause a blockage during the first few months, barb thompson
who wrote the book about WLS had a serious problem early on with spinach:(
It got stuck:(:( <P> Its BEST early on to cut everything into pencil
eraser sized bits and chew to death

pottasium, every time I start craving salt it is because my pottasium is
low. Your blood work may show it in the normal range but just a slit
increase can make all the difference.

When you eat salt, you also get thirsty. It might be your body's way of
getting you to drink more fluids.
