Question:
Usually how long takes Dr office to send your papers to the insurance company?
. I was with the DR last Monday and I call today and they still have my papers. — Vanessa @Nebraska (posted on October 11, 2004)

Vanessa: my dr.'s office had my paper in to my insurance in one week. I
called my insurance to make sure because the receptionist had said one
week. I'm sure not every dr. has that quick of a turn around in paperwork.
Don't stress yourself out over it. Good luck.

I think it depends on how busy your surgeon's office is and how streamlined
they are. I turned in my paperwork on a Tuesday and by Friday of the same
week, it had been submitted to insurance. My surgeon's office has one lady
who does nothing but insurance paperwork for WLS. She doesn't handle the
paperwork of any of his other surgical procedures. My surgical group also
will not make an appointment with you until they have verified the
procedure is covered and you have no exclusions. If there is exclusions,
they don't make an appointment. They did this as a cost-saving measure.
It's kind of harsh and I've had people get really upset that the office
won't see them, but that's their requirement. Good luck on your approval!

Mine went in on the day I finished my last pre-op test. Had approval
within 4 business days. I think it does depend to a great deal on the
doctor's office and how aggressive you are at staying on top of things. I
know of some folks who waited weeks and weeks before they heard anything
from insurance. Pin them down no when they're going to send them in or find
out why they're holding them.
