Question:
Has anyone else experience white spots on their tongue after wls?
I am 10 mo. out and for the last couple of months now I have been experiencing white spots on my tongue. I was wondering if this could be from lack of a certain vitamin. — Vicki K. (posted on August 26, 2004)

Perhaps you have Thrush (a yeast infection). I never had it pre surgery,
but I have gotten it 4-5 times since then. Oral yeast treatments like
Diflucan worked great for me.

Agree with other poster - could be yeast overgrowth. Try eating some plain,
non-fat yogurt (I mix it with splenda and protein powder) or get some
acidopholus tablets and see if it clears up. If it doesn't clear up in a
few days, call your doctor. I always have the problem when I've taken
antibiotics for awhile.

I was going to suggest the same thing -- thrush. But whenever I have had
thrush it hurt something fierce!

or it could be geographic tongue which is also called glossitis. the
medication for thrush would not clear this up the signs of geographic
tongue are white spots but it moves to different areas so your tongue looks
like a map. It may be easier for a dentist to diagnose this than a medical
doctor but if the thrush medication does'nt work it could be this.It is
from a vitamin deficiency but I dont think it is due to a specific one. I
was diagnosed with this years ago after being treated for thrush with no
response.

I get them but they are raised and painful. I have gotten them since very
early post op. They were so bad in the beginning that I couldn't eat or
sleep. I finally go so desperate that I clipped them off with nail
clippers. It only hurts for a minute or two after, but it is INSTANT
reliefe. Now when I get them I just automattically do it. I get the pretty
frequently and no one has been able to tell me what they are from. I just
have ALL of my bloodwork doen and then some. Every level is perfect.
