Question:
Has anyone gotten pregnant and then started having low blood sugar after WLS?
I am now a little over 3 months pregnant and I am 11 months post-op. I have started having low blood sugar even though I am eating 6 small meals a day and watching what I eat. I have been lucky and had no morning sickness but still have managed to lose 2 pounds since my last visit (I am not complaining though). I just wanted to know if this is a common problem after surgery. I saw a lot of posts on this website for low blood sugar but none mentioned it after getting pregnant. Could I be having this because of the baby? Any suggestions? — Summer L. (posted on July 9, 2004)

My hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) is absolutely WLS related. I know that
sometimes other things aggravate it (fatigue, stress) and that it's
absolutely unpredictable (will come on even if I'm eating absolutely
right). I would not be surprised if pregnancy aggravates it or triggers
it. My hormonal swings tend to trigger or aggravate it and there is a lot
of that in pregnancy! Best of luck to you!
