Hi Rhonda. I'm only 4 months out and my surgeon said 800-1000 a day. I
really don't know either when that should be upped, but its challenging
enough just to get the 800 in. I have been tracking my food intake a
www.fitday.com and it makes it MUCH easier to do. If you haven't used the
site, its free to use and very simple. It definitely helps me know how
many calories and how much protein I take in a day. BTW, when the first
day when I tracked my intake...I had only eaten 450ish calories by 6:30 pm.
WAY OFF what I thought I was doing! Take care, Shannon Open RNY 2/25/04

I'm 9 months out and my surgeon is wanting me to get in about 900-1000
calories a day, per my last appointment with him last week. Prior to that,
I was getting in about 700-800 a day.

Rhonda,
I am 7 months out, and I currently have about 1500 calories a day. I am at
goal weight and I do exercise quite intensely. I run about 3 miles a day,
do weights, swim, and do a fit camp a couple times a week. I find that I
feel best when I exercise daily. I share all that with you because we are
all different and at different stages of our weight loss. I would consult
my doctor, and one of the factors in determining what is healthy for you
would be how much you have to lose still, how often and how intensely are
you exercising, are you physically hungry at all, etc. I know I had to
reluctantly up my calories because I was so hungry, I started obsessing
about food, which for me would lead to overeating eventually. I also
started to feel weak. Interesting enough, my weight loss became more
predictable after I upped my calories to about 1200. Now to maintain I am
at 1500. I still seem to be losing though so I may need to up that amount.
If you really listen to your body (not the head hunger) and pay attention
to the scale and how clothese are fitting, your answer will come.

You should consult your surgeon on this as they all have different
guidelines, mine told me from 1000 to 1500 a day. I seem to lose
better/faster when I get to 1000, but I often only end up with 800-900, but
I do get at least 60 grams of protein in a day.
