Question:
I've lost 4 pounds last month..
I'm now 7 months post-op. I've been a steady loser. 20LBS the 1st 2 months and 10 pounds every month after that. I'm 20 pounds from goal and i don't think i'll make it. I am feeling a little disappointed. What else should i do to boost my weightloss? i haven't exercised...i know i suck! Thanks! — Maria G. (posted on May 11, 2004)

Shake up your routine, your foods and increase protein and water intake and
exercise for a few days. See if that doesn't shake it loose.

I'm almost 2 months out... you've come a long way and have done a
tremendous job, and without exercise?
I'm willing to bet that if you up your protein and water, and walk 20
minutes a day, you'll jump start your weight loss. You can do it! I
myself hate exercise (for the time being, anyway). I do try to get some
exercise every day, whether it's walking or tae bo (kick boxing).
Whenever I go shopping or to the mall, I park in the far corner of the
parking lot so that I'm forced to walk. I take the stairs rather than an
escalator or an elevator if it's only a couple of flights. Little things
like that add up.
Just keep your chin up and keep trying!

Considering that you are only 7 months out with 20 more lbs to go until
goal, I'd say that you'll make it before you are 1 year out. I wish you
much luck. You can do it!!!!

Hi there,
take a look at what my history has been. You are only 7 months out and it
will slow down but not to a halt. You will continue to lose 4 lbs one month
then maybe 6 the next month. I have already reached a year out and I am
still losing 2 -3 lbs permonth. I am at my goal but wouldnt mind losing
another 5 lbs and I know it will happen. Good luck. Laura

I'm 7.5 months out and am 18 pounds from goal. I fully expect to make goal
even though I'm not able to exercise right now because of foot surgery.
The pin comes out Saturday and I can start riding a bike or using the
elliptical machine at our club. I didn't lose anything for almost a month
then lost three pounds without changing anything. I know I'm not done and
you're only done if you choose to be! Add some protein, maybe at least try
walking consistently even if you don't do anything else, and keep on
monitoring your intake. You can do it.

I'm 8 months out - TODAY! I didn't lose any weight for about a month from
the end of March until almost a week ago - in fact, I gained a few pounds.
I tried to increase my protein and water a bit, and I think that helped me
lose the few plus a couple more. I don't think we're done yet - it's just
going to be very slow. I would like to lose about 14 more pounds. My son
is 1 year out as of May 5, and he thought he might be done as well. But he
increased his protein, and the weight started coming off again (he started
at 442 and is down in the 250's now). I wasn't a good exerciser, either,
and really just started walking regularly about a month ago. So that
probably helped, too. I'm not knocking myself out with it, just trying to
walk for 30-40 minutes 3 or 4 times a week. I walk with a co-worker after
work, and it helps me keep up with it better, and we walk longer that way,
too. Good luck, and hang in there. Lap RNY 9/11/03, 270/174/???

Maria - keep the faith. I am 22 months post op and will still shed a pound
or 2 every other month. Drink lots of water, exercise and take your
vitamins. I was 260 pre-op and am now 139 lbs. I can say now that after
22 months that the weight loss has stabalized. You're still very early
out, don't rush it. Even 1 year out your body will still shed pounds, if
not pounds inches. That is what happened to me. I didn't lose weight for
3 months, but lost 8 inches on the waist. Keep the faith!

You don't think you'll lose 20 pounds in the next 11 mos?

Your weight loss sounds exactly like mine. I lost 105 pounds by month 7 and
it took me another 5-6 months to lose the last 20. As you get closer to
goal it gets much harder but you have a lot of time to do it. I can still
lose with some effort. I would like to lose 6 more pounds and though it is
much harder work at 16 months out it is still totally possible. I have to
be super careful with the carbs in order to still lose and actually not
gain.
