Rhonda, I have dry skin and then post-op with the drop in fat in my diet, my dry skin got even drier. One product I swear by is Body Butter by the Body Shop. This is a whipped cream that you apply to your skin. It is much thicker than lotion. I used it every day have I showered and this was the first year I didn't have rough dry elbows. They were so smooth. If you don't hav a Body Shop Store near you, you can order it from their website. -Janine

Are you on a pain killer? After I had my surgery and was sent home, my surgeon prescribed Percocet for the pain. That stuff had me itching so bad I could barely sleep. Once I stopped taking the meds the itching stopped.

Are you using a protein supplement? And vite E? But in dry form? Not in the lil gold balls? If you've got those covered, are you avoiding fats? We need some healthy fats, but don't need to go crazy. Anything leap out at you?

This is common. also had this, and many other people I have talked to have had it also. From what I understand it is becouse of the lack of fat oils we now absorbe. I used an over the counter Vitamin E oil. It helped stop the itch. You are lucky so far though, my skin became flaky, and dry. Maybe if you catch it now, you wont get that dry flaky skin. Good Luck, Jennifer

thanks for the tips, all. Michelle, you mentioned a "dry" form of Vit. E, can you recommend a resource for this, I don't think I've ever seen it. I'm going to try increasing my "fats" a bit and add more Vit E, to see if it helps. Thanks, again, to all!

I itched violently at about 3 months post-op, so badly, in fact that I woke up frequently in the middle of the night to scratch and scratched my skin raw. I used 2 things that saved my life--hydrocortisone cream and Aquaphor ointment. You'll ruin your sheets, but it was worth it for me. The crazy itching only lasted a few weeks, so hang in there! I had this problem at about 3 months also. After taking steroids (bad for new stomach) with no relief, I was referred to an Allergist. She never could figure out why the itching and rashes but prescribed Zyrtec and Allegra to knock out the worst of the symptoms. Now I take a Zyrtec every day which holds the itching at bay and have had no more rashes. Good luck! I feel your misery!

My first three months post op I had really ichy dry and rashy skin. I iched all the time and had rash constantly. All I can recomend in drink plenty of water and use lots of lotion. Nuetrageana, keri oil, baby oil even gold bond medicated lotion worked. Good luck Jodie (1 yr post-op down 160lbs)
