Lizzy,
I was scared to death to be put asleep. WLS was the first time I had had
any surgery at all. All I can tell you is that I remember the nurse
telling me that he had given me my "sleepy medicine". The next
thing I remember is seeing my husband and thinking it's over all ready. I
had lap rny and it had lasted 5 hours. Try not to worry, everyone there
knows what they are doing, and they will take good care of you. Good
luck!

In the past, I would have panic attacks after knowing I been put to sleep.
I would have a lot of anxiety over it. I didn't have that problem after
WLS, thankfully, but I sure know what you mean. Hang in there.

Dear Lizzy, I also had anesthesia jitters and have panic attacks but I
prayed and asked God to please help me and He did. The good of WLS
outweighed the bad to me and I was prepared for anything. I wish you the
best and know you will do fine. Lots of love, Mary Ann BPD/DS 8/14/02

I was scared to death to be put to sleep also. That was my biggest worry
because I had never been completely under. All I remember is being wheeled
into the surgery suite and they put an oxygen mask on me and told me to
breath deep that it was just oxygen then about two breaths in the smell or
sensation changed and I took about a half a breath and was out.. next I
remember being woke up and could hear everything going on around me but
could not or would not open my eyes. Sort of like a dream were you hear it
but you cant respond. NO PAIN at all! I remember my husband holding my
hand telling that my little girl sent me lots of kisses. Took me awhile to
wake up even after they took me to my room. I did not dream or remember
anything it was like a second had gone by. Good luck and God bless.

Lizzy-
I had RNY 19 mos ago...I was scared to death that I would die on that
table. Never had undergone anesthesia before. I will tell you I wrestled
with this daily...I would cry and make my hubby promise to see my family
after I die. I will tell you, to get over this, I had a massage a few days
before and had a long talk with my anesthesologist before I walked into the
OR. I remeber getting up on the table, Dr Leitman asking me to remember my
fav time in my life and POOF, I woke up and was in recovery. My surgery
lasted about 45 min-1 hr.
I will tell you it still scares me. I am having my Lower Body Lift in May
and the hospital (Manhattan Ear Nose & Throat) has had 2 anesthesia
deaths in the past 2 mos, I am scared to death.
But, the way I look at it it, if IT IS YOUR TIME TO GO, ITS YOUR TIME TO
GO....GOD TAKES YOU WHEN HE WANTS TO.
P.S. I also heard about surgery relaxtion tapes, couldn't find any prior
to my surgery, but, am getting them for this go round. You can get them at
Barnes & Noble.

Same here. I saw some dumb show on TV about how you could wake up, and
that was it. Truth is you don't wake up, you never know what happened
until they wake you and its over. They'll also give you something to calm
you down abit. Tell them about your panic and they may give you something
to take days before. But really, theyll make you feel so comfortable you
wont fear at all.
