I agree with Bob the waiting was the worst part. I said the Lord's prayer while I was being rolled into the surgery suite. After that they gave me the mask and I was OUT!

Wow, my dr. had the gas man give me something in the holding area - I never even saw the inside of the OR. Please let them know you are anxious, but determined tohave the surgery, and ask if they can give you something before hand to help calm your nerves. Good Luck!

I had 3 shots of something wonderful between the waiting area and the OR. The technician who came and got me asked me a question and I just started to cry and my husband and mom told her how nervous I was and out came the needles. By the OR, I was laughing and joking with everyone around me!! I wouldn't go thru all that waiting again for anything. I agree with the other post's- make sure you tell them you are anxious and nervous. Good Luck!

On the way to surgery, I said 'Could you give me something, I am a little nervous?'. I remember talking to the anesthesiologist and doctor in the holding area. I also remember the nurse asking the doctor what kind of music he wanted. I actually don’t remember when they gave me something to calm me down.

I almost left the hospital the day of my surgery also. I was so nervous, but they did give me 3 shots of something (sorry I don't recall what the name of the Rx was), but as with the other post-ers, I too was feeling relaxed by the time they rolled me into the OR. If you want -- read my profile. Good luck -- I understand your fear!!!!

I Was given a wonderful drug called VERSED. (Not quite sure of the spelling on that) It is supposed to make you "forget" what happened. It did not have the "forgetting" effect on me but I sure was relaxed and happy. I remember everything from pre op up until they positioned me on the table and my "knock out doc" told me "nite nite". I would not have changed my surgey day for anything. Just make sure that you make it known that you want a litte extra something to help you relax. The docs should be more than willing to help you out.

Wow, I'm surprised they just didn't give you something without your having to ask. Honestly, I didn't even make it to the beginning of the hallway, I was knocked out. I didn't indicate I was nervous either, they just gave me something automatically. I sort of was curious to see what the operating room looked like but I was glad to not have to worry on the way there. I thought it was standard procedure.

I am surprised they would not give you something. I did not even have to ask. Right after my IV was placed, they put some drug in, I am assuming it was Versed, and the next thing I remember is waking up in the recovery. I never even saw the the OR. Tanya RNY 1/5/04
