Question:
Why did I gain weight after gall bladder surgery?
I had my gall bladder removed yesterday. (I had WLS in June 2003) When I got home this morning I weighed myself and was up 5 whole pounds! Is this normal for the day after? Could this weight gain be water retention or gas? I didn't eat anything but chicken broth and jello after surgery. — sherrisantos (posted on January 8, 2004)

Did you have IV fluids? Most likely you did and sometimes those even
contain glucose. If that's the culprit, it may take a couple of days but
it will go away.

I am assuming that they had you on IV fluids for your surgery as this is a
common practice for surgery. That would explain your gain. I know I
gained 15.5 pounds with my WLS surgery because of being on IVs for 3 days.
It took me a week to get rid of those pounds before I could start on ME
weight.

fine, it will come off quickly.
