Question:
I am scheduled to have a colonic cleansing,
ya know, where they insert an instrument into the rectom to do some serious "cleansing" of the colon. Is this safe for those who have had the open RNY? I know our colons were manipulated during the WLS surgery and I just want to make sure it is still where it is suppose to be or if there are any special precautions I should observe. Anyone who has had this procedure I would really appreciate any input. thanks — gloriafb (posted on December 4, 2003)

Is a Dr. performing this? I just read an article which states that this
might not be "safe" for anyone. I am not a Dr. but I think I
would ask my Dr. about it before I subjected myself to this. I have a
nephew who has had this done at least once. He came thru allright, but I
would still be leary of it. I think it is another of the fad things that
some underqualified people have been known to perform. Just check it out
thoroughly before doing it. I wish I could remember the specifics of the
article I read. Be careful and good luck.

I do them occasionally, and have for a few years. My WLS doc found the
concept amusing, not at all dangerous. To be safe, I took a copy of my op
report AND a sketch to the ND with me. I have to see the ND (naturopath)
annually to continue. I know some have no respect for ND's, but they are
trained in what they do. And no, I do not buy all the gazillion products
they want to sell me. They tried to sell me whey protein for $60 for a 1#
jug. LOLOLOL!
