Question:
I was wondering if long-term post-ops struggling with gain will join me

I am struggling with a weight gain. I have a lot of stress in my life right now and am eating what seems 24/7. I was wondering if anyone would be interested in emailing with me to try to help each other get back on the straight and narrow. Please email [email protected] if you are interested. Thank you! I'm up for it! I'm 2.5 yrs post and have had some "rebound" weight that I'm not dealing with too well...what do you think is the best way to motivate each other? I do know that we can be successful with weightloss, and maintance, it's in our reach...we just have to learn to trick our bodies into it (since they've been programmed to be obese, for many of us since probably before birth). I know that watching my sugar intake helps control the binge monster...I also make sure to move my body at least 5 days a week for a half hour....walk, gym, bike...etc. I have a lot of hair brain ideas on keeping this weight off...but whatever philosophy I'm following for the week is usually destroyed by my weekends...I unravel all the good I do all week long on those two little days. I have to reprogram my brain into thinking I worked hard all week long and deserve to be healthy and thin...instead of, I worked all week long and deserve that brownie ice cream sundae with hot fudge topping. ya know what I mean? So anyway, I'd be glad to be part of an e-mail support/motivation group for longer term posties... Kim open RNY 7/17/01 282/140ish/125

Yes count me in sounds like a great idea, my wls was 12-20-01 and I weigh 155ish and should weigh 123ish anyway one of the ways I am taking back control is not eating after 7p.m. and upping my water and last but not least thinking positively. Take-care,,,,,,,,Rho :)

I am up for a long term postie e-mail support. I am 2yrs post and have somewhat of a gain in the last 2 months thinking it is thought that my antidepressant is causing the gain so i am off it for a month to experiment and try to kick start loss again since i do have a good chunk more weight i would like to lose. I am stressing and frustrated over it too.

I would love to talk to more longer post ops. I am 25 months out, and at times it gets so hard. My only help has been to eliminate all carbs, sweets, the more I eat, the more I want, I try not to keep anything in the house that really bothers me, or if my husband has to have sweets he gets sf ones, which I don't like or I tell him to hide them out of site. It doesn't get any easier, I went up about 10pds, and my clothes starting getting snug, and I felt terrible, so I cut the junk out, don't eat at night unless its decaff coffee, or frozen grapes which sounds yuncky, but they are great, a few makes you things you are having a treat. Would love idea, comments, etc from all of you, we can do, lets stick together, God Bless, and have a blessed holiday, Nancy Suzie one of your older buddies (62) but young (Ha)

The South Beach way of eating (I refuse to say "diet" because it is a lifelong strategy) has worked very well for me in getting control. It's based on the glycemic index - your blood sugar's response to carbs - and is very livable and good for wls folks. I do use protein shakes also. Invest in the book and get started! It's worth it. Good luck. hugs, Ann rny 9/10/99 260/125

I would be more than happy to hear from other long term post op folks. Im so worried at this point. I had surgery in July of 2000.I lost down to 145 ibs from 295 pounds with no trouble whatsoever, I kept that weight off until the past few months. I am now up to 164 and I am so scared that I have "ruined" my surgery. I can eat a lot of food now and Im humgry all the time. I do walk a few times a week, but not involved in any true exercise program. I have a very stressful life , but thats no excuse for ruining what Ive worked so hard for. So, anyone with any input or insight..feel free to write me and Im anxious to have contact with others in my position. Thanks !! Nancy Colby
