Question:
8wks.out/what can I eat for up coming holidays?
I am 8 weeks post-op. Have been really sick and not able to eat more than applesauce and sf popsicles. What am I gonna be able to tolerate at the upcoming holidays. Just want a few ideas of what to try. Thanks — Vanessa H. (posted on November 7, 2003)

If I were you I would try a few things ahead of time. I am only 9 day Post
of from Lap RNY and I have eaten alot of things people don't try for many
weeks to come. It is a trial and error type thing. I asked a couple months
ago what would I be able to eat each week because I was getting different
input from tons of places. There are only slight guide lines to go by from
what I have gathered and I eat things like: crab meat, cheese
eggs(scrambled), sugar free pudding, ice cream and ice cream bars; peanut
butter (natural and low in sugar) things of that texture. Just try a few
things that they might have at dinner like cranberry sauce and things that
are soft, worse thing that could happen is for you to dump. Eat slow and
chew well! I haven't dumped yet. GOOD LUCK!!! Sabrina 10/29/03 -21#

At 9 weeks my Dr had us on a regular diet. I could not tolerate every food
item at 9 weeks, but I could try it. If you eat turkey, have a very small
portion and if it is dry, add a little gravy. Many veggies are also ok.
Don't foegt th=o chew everything real well. We were told not to eat carrots
or corn unless they are very very cooked. The skin on the corn, and fiber
in the carrots do not digest easily. Ditto for celery. At this point you
may not know if you dump so I would stay clear of anything with sugar like
sweet potatoes. Mashed potatoe or stuffing would be ok, but they are full
of carbs and you don't want to get in the habit of eating them. You
shouldn't be able to each much, so choose wisely, eat protein first and go
ahead and try a few things - one very small mouthful at a time. Best wishes

When did you start feeling pukey? How does water taste? By the time you
are sitting at the turkey, you should be able to eat a few bites of most
things. Might be only one bite of turkey, of course. But a tsp of potato,
tsp of dresing, 1/2 tsp cranberry. You'll never her me say the pies are ok,
unless you know they are sugar free. Makes me wonder if something is just
slightly out of whack. Very fixable, however.

Vanessa, I had a doctor who believed in "real food" from the time
I was in the hospital. Of course, then it was just sf custard and cream of
wheat. But by the the time I was home, I tried anything that would go into
a blender. I've found that a bite of anything hasn't hurt me. All you can
do is try a bite at a time, chew, chew. I wouldn't try fried foods or
heavy sugar stuff, either. But I have a bite of cake or cookie
occasionally with no side effects. So be a little adventurous but take it
slow. I would try out new things at home, tho, not at a party or such just
in case it doesn't agree with you. Good luck. 3/20/03 - 290/201/150??
