Question:
Anyone start at 320 lbs, lose 56 at week 14 and make it to goal?
I am so afraid that I won't make it. I am losing so slowly. So many of you lose tons of weight at 3 months. I feel like such a failure. — Stacie B. (posted on October 10, 2003)

please don't be so hard on yourself. i started at 322 and 2 years later i'm
at my own goal of 155. i know 14 weeks seems like a long time but keep in
mind how far you have come. so many people lose sight of what they have
really lost. good luck.

Stacie, I feel the same!! I thought being a heavy weight that I would be
losing Much faster. I'm following All of the rules. I've always lost weight
pretty fast in the past. So starting at 371 and at 12 weeks out I'm only
down 49 pounds..I'm Know I should be thrilled but I can't help but feel
EXactly like you. After reading so many profiles I was under the impression
that the first 6 months the weight would easily fall off. I have Had to
diet (Atkins) and exercise for the scale to move at all. The surgery has
simply allowed me Not to be able to cheat. I do feel that with an enormous
amount of effort that I will make it to goal. Some in my support group
don't have to count carbs or calories, etc and they are losing wonderfully.
That's life, huh. I'm sorry..I'm having my own pity party here. Back to
you....We Will Get There. Don't focus on what others are doing or have
done. Only be in competition with yourself. Don't look to your right or
left...look straight ahead. We can do this! Best wishes.

I guess my answer would depend on what you call goal. I started out at
326. Now just 9 months later I am down to 185. My surgeons goal is 135.
I don't think I will make it to that goal. My first goal was to improve my
health. I did that one. I am now wanting to lose 20 lbs more and make it
to 165. I ask my Primary care physcian what his goal would be for me. His
reply "I wouldn't go any lower than 150. If you didn't lose another
lb, you would be okay". I guess our goals are what we set them at.
Don't get caught up in the numbers. Eat right, exercise and you will feel
great. It is a way of life, not a diet.

I don't think you're a slow loser.
20-30 lbs lost - 1st month average
7-14 - per month average after that
Even if you lost 34 pounds in 3 months you'd still be in the average range.
I'd say you're average to high. Congratluations.
