I am 4.5 months out and at 3.5 months my hair started coming out in
handfulls, and it has distressed me big time, but it's my understanding,
once it starts, you just have to wait it out. I have been taking the hair
vits and doing extra protien and using nioxin shampoo to no avail. Good
luck.

I'm a 35 year old guy with a good head of hair and when I started losing it
a couple months post surgery (5/03) I nearly died!
What I did was take the advice of a family member who went thru the same
thing post OP and now I've noticed the hair loss drastically reduce after
about 7-10 days.
Nexxus has a product line called Vitatress for problems just like this
fortified with Biotin and other amino acids. (check their website for more
detailed ingredients and info). I bought the Biotin shampoo, the Biotin
cream, and the Cystine treatment.
Take this info for what it is, only advice but they are high quality
products and they did seem to help me.

this is a natural part of this or any major surgery. your hair is protein
and when you have surgery your body needs protein to heal so it takes it
where it can get it , yes your hair. don't worry you wil not go bald. i
haven't heard of any one going bald yet. it will stop on its own and just
relax and hang in there. i just cut mine to give it more body and healthier
look.

If you check the archives you will see that many people have tried
everything: special shampoos, perscription pills, lotions, creams, special
diets - everthing - and none of it has worked. I agree with the other
poster that said you just have to wait it out. Best regards -

Go to your hairdresser and ask for a short cute doo to hide the effects of
hair loss. I did that and got so many compliments that I now wear my hair
short! I agree with the others who say don't waste your $ on hair products
or vitamins - they do not work and the loss will slow down and should end
within 3 months.

As long as you're getting enough protein in -- which may have anothing to
do with your hair loss, btw (it didn't in my case) -- all you can do is
wait it out. It's temporary, and it's not as noticeable to everyone else
as it is to you. I bought biotin, never opened the bottle, and the hair
loss stopped on its own just a few weeks after it started, so I'm another
one from Camp "Don'tBuyNuttin'" (wish I hadn't!). I did get a
short haircut, though, 'cause it was time for a change anyway!

Make sure you are getting your protein and vitamins and wait - it will stop
and you won't go bald. And, it will all come back - my hair is thicker and
healthier now than it was before my WLS - and in the last 22 months I've
had three major surgeries - RNY 11/29/01; hernia repair and tummy tuck
2/4/03 and total knee replacement 7/30/03. I haven't started losing hair
since the knee surgery but I'm sure I will. It's normal after surgery and
that surgery lasted almost 4 hours - so I was under anesthesia a lot longer
with it than with the others.

Like I said, it worked for me and is working as we speak. I can't agree
with the comment that someone has made stating that "alotof people
have tried everything and nothing works" as I'm one stating something
has helped.
Then again, maybe men are different than women in regards to this as we
have more susceptibility to losing our hair as part of aging.
Ultimately, what does it hurt to try something new!? It's common knowledge
that people in general do alot of damage to their hair using cheap shampoos
like Suave and the like. The quality stuff may indeed help your hair in
general, surgery loss or not.

I take noni juice that has helped me. Its an herbal medicine that you can
get at a health store. Best to get 100% noni juice. It also lowers
colestrol, highblood pressure and etc. If you want to read more on it go
to www.nonijuice4u2000.com
Thanks,
Loretta

I seriusly lost hair between 4-5 months. It gradually came back in and now
at 14 months is as thick as it ever was.
