Question:
how is it possible to lose inches and not weight?
i so often see people say that they are not losing weight but are losing inches. it doesnt make sense to me. Where are those inches going? — s H. (posted on September 28, 2003)

Nancy, a lb of fat takes up less room than a lb of muscle. Its the same
reason that someone who is 5'5 and 150 lbs is a size 6 and someone who is
the same height and weight is a sizr 12.

Muscle is denser and takes less room than fat. I lost 22 lbs the first
month yet I also lost 3 pants sizes. So in my case I definitely was losing
inches much more than weight, which was fine with me. Almost 8 months
later I have gone from 36W and 4X-6X to 22/20W bottoms and 1X or 18 tops.
So losing inches can be extremely rewarding. Truthfully for me, even to
this day, I get a bigger boost out of going down a size than losing the
lbs. Yes I'm thrilled with the lbs but seeing a new shape emerging and
wearing all different kinds of clothes is so much fun!

Gonna agree with Chris here. I am a big time 'pound' loser. The inches
were a little slower coming off. I did not go down so drastically and fast
in clothes sizes, but the weight melted off. Now I was HUGE before I
started. I am 5'7" and large boned. I am about 40 lbs from my goal.
Lost a total of 205 lbs since last October. Soon I will post my Before and
After pics. I am soooooo unphotogenic. Can't get a current picture that I
like!

I don't know but muscle weighs more than fat, and I am definitely losing
inches on weeks when I don't drop the pounds! The incredible shrinking
woman here!
