Question:
What brand of Calcium Citrate tablets are not horse pills?

I bought a bottle of Calcium Citrate today. They only have 300 mg per pill and they are HUGE. 1 inch long by 1/2 inch wide and thick. I cut them in three pieces and could hardly swallow them. I definately need a smaller pill. Does anyone know of a brand that are smaller? — Stacie B. (posted on September 26, 2003)

Try www.wlssuccess.com I purchase my calcium through them and they are plastic coasted 500mg each. Kristiina is the owner and has had surgery herself. Great place to purchase supplements and vitamins.

Yikes! That's *HUGE*. I use Super Calcium from VitaLady.com. It's a fairly large capsule, I swallow whole with a protein shake, but you can empty the capsules INTO the shake, if swallowing is a problem for you. They don't taste . . . good luck!

I try to buy ones that are stronger so I can split them up - 300 mg is pretty low for such a huge pill. Whenever I buy vitamins that don't work out (like last night - the GNC vitamins are nasty on the burp back) I just give them to my husband or daughter, and move on.

I buy my calcium citrate from the RGARDEN.COM site. They are also huge but they are chewable. Some days I hate the thought of taking them and other days, I chew and swallow them without thinking about it. Bad news...you have to take 3 a day. The middle of the tablet tastes like a sweet-tart so it's best if you don't break them up. I tried to break them into 4 pieces but that just prolongs the agony. Take a drink of water to get your mouth moist, put the tablet in your mouth, such on it for a while and reduce it's size, then when you chew it, it really does resemble a sweet-tart. I bought two bottles in August when the RGARDEN store was having a sale and got the first bottle for $20.00 and the second bottle for half off $10.00. Not sure if that was a bargain or not but a friend recommended the site and that is where I will continue buying mine. Good luck.

I use Citracal Ultradense Calcium Citrate (without the D) from Walmart, about $7. They are 1/2" long and so much easier to swallow then the big ones. 400mg each. I take an ADEK 2x per day so I get my Vit. D that way.

I just got the Chocolate Wafers from BariatricAdvantage - it is Citrate, chewable not too big, and resmebles a Necco wafer

I use the capsules, 500mg each. They are gelatin coasted, so they dissolve in saliva in about 4 minutes. But I've seen people just dump them right on their tongues! I know they have no flavor, just a bit of texture, but I'm a pill girl, myself. I also use a powdered form that I add to my protein shakes a few times per day. Since I already have osteoporosis, I take a LOT of calcium citrate. I take pills with my vitamins & the powder with some shakes (not all).

I went to my local health food store and found liquie calcium citrate that comes in different flavors. Not bad at all; just drink about an ounce a day. If you want to know the brand, email me; I'm at work right now.
