Question:
Has anyone had a stomach ulcer and had the surgery?

My surgeon said he couldn't do the surgery if one had an ulcer. I think that is the standard of medical practice but it may be just the opinion of my surgeon.

2 weeks before I had my surgery, I had an upper GI done. They found that I had acid reflux really bad, an ulcer, and they had to stretch my esophagus. But, my surgery date was never changed. I took Nexium (the purple pill) up until my surgery day. I haven't had any problems since. --Shelly

My 65 yr old mother in law was super morbidly obese and had an extremely bad ulcer. She had her surgery 4 mos ago. They cut out the ulcer at the same time. She's doing great now!!

Hey, I have had a problem with ulcers on and off since I was 15yrs old. and I now have gerd. so i was concerned about getting ulcers in my pouch and also getting ulcers in the old stomach, so i asked the surgeon and he said that drugs like nexium are systemic and treat the ulcers, they don't have to directly touch them like say pepto bismal.
