Question:
How did you handle the holidays?

At Thanksgiving I will be only onw week post op. And at Christmas I will be 4-5 weeks post op. Any ideas on what I can eat a the holidays? Did you feel left out because you could not eat what everyone else was?    — Mini Gadget (posted on September 22, 2003)

i can understand how you say you will feel "left out", but remember what the holidays are for...and it's not food.

Hello. I am only 3 weeks post-op so I'm not sure either. If you have a food processor I would blend the turkey and add gravy to it then put it over the mashed potatoes. I have this a lot now and it's really good. That will probably be all you eat because our meals are so small now. The thing that worries me is all the cookies. : )

I would not worry too much about this. First off you probably will not want to eat anyway. I found that when I was in the first three months I had no hunger at all, and it DID NOT bother me to watch other people eat. It did amaze me though...to think I used to eat that much! Good Luck you'll be fine. Mark 5 months...down 101#

My surgery was 10/22/02, so I was about 1 mo out at Thanksgiving and still didn't care if I ate or not. I didn't feel left out because I had a bite of mashed potatoes and a little dressing and a tiny peice of turkey. I just ate what I could and sat at the table with everyone else. By Christmas I was eating a little more but then you have to deal with everyone watching you to see what you are eating.

I was 2 weeks post-op when Thanksgiving came. I had NO appetite for the first 8 weeks after surgery so I skated through Thanksgiving AND Christmas without a problem!!

I'll be having my surgery this Thursday the 25th (waa-HOO!!!!) and that's Rosh Hashonah, so I told family that I'm out of commission for this holiday but I will definitely be there for Hannukah even if I have to put the damn potato latkes in the blender! ;-) If I think I'm going to be uneasy about the food thing, then I'm just going to come a bit later and join folks for dessert (mmmmm, sugar free jello for me!) and presents.
