Question:
Has anyone had the Sapala-Wood Micropouch bypass and what do you think of it?
I hope to have revision surgery to a failed RNY operation and would like to know how others might be doing with the Sapala-Wood procedure — debbi W. (posted on September 14, 2003)

On July 11, 2003 I had the Sapala-Wood Micropouch, my surgeon was Dr.
Schuhknect. I am very happy with my weight loss so far, since my one week
post op check up I have lost 69 lbs. There have been no revisions with the
micropouch. I would recommend it and the team of surgeons, they are all
wonderful!! I am 100% completely satisfied.

I am almost 5 months post-op and down 90 lbs. Happy would be a major
understatement! Dr Wood and my micropouch is a blessing!!

I had the Sapala-Wood Micropouch bypass in May 2001 and would not recommend
it over standard RNY. My food limitations lasted only about six weeks and
I found I could eat as fast and almost as much as before surgery if I
wasn't paying attention. An upper GI (from an independant internist)
revealed that there is absolutely no restriction at the STOMA and that food
quickly fills my intestine. Dr. Sapala was dismissive of my concerns and
had little interest in any post-op concerns I had.
Don't go out of your way looking for someone to perform the micropouch when
other options are just as good or better.
