Hi Dawn~ I had my surgery on May 13,2003 LAP RNY. My baby girl was 11 months old and well over 18lbs. I was able to pick her up and put her into her car seat about 7 days after I came home, so about 10 days after surgery. I did a lot of floor holding and then I would put her onto the couch then get up myself and then pick her up from the couch, so not to strain my stomache area. I did require some naps in the early days home so I just put her in my bed and slept beside her while she napped. Good luck.

I had Lap RNY on Feb 5th and my doctor would not let me lift over 10 lbs for 6 weeks. I had to have help with my 2 babies! My best friend picked up her daugther (about 20 lbs) about 2 weeks post op (she also had lap rny w/same doctor)and pulled a something in her right side and ended up in terrible pain for 3 weeks. Be careful!

I had Lap RNY on 4.10.03, it was 2 weeks before I could hold my 7 month old daughter at the time. She was tipping the scales at 18 pounds. I did a lot of snuggling with her while Daddy held her for me, during that time. I remember that was the hardest thing for me post op. I was so glad when it didn't hurt any longer to pick her up. My doctor told me to use common sense. If it hurts don't do it! LOL

Dawn, my baby was 10 months old when I had my RNY and she weighed about 18-19 pounds. My doc told me to not lift her for two weeks. Fortunately my older children were able to lift her out of her crib, etc. for me and put her on my lap. I was still able to snuggle with her but just not pick her up. After the two weeks, I went about lifting her as I normally would. I never had any pain because of lifting. Good luck!!

My twins were 22 months when I had open RNY, my surgeron told me I could pick them up after 2 weeks but it hurt a lot so I waited 3 weeks. It was a good 5 weeks before I felt no pulling from lifting them. I also had to be careful because they, like most babies, were quick and would move unexpectedly. I guarded my stomach area for the first 5 weeks all the time they were around. Now at 8 weeks I do everything and more then I did before. Good luck!!
