Question:
Upper abdominal pain around right side and with stomach
I have low intensity pain just under the right side breast and also have a funny sensation where I think the stomach is. I had open RNY and they removed the gallbladder at the same time (gall stones). I get pain right at the top of my incision. I've talked with the nurse from the Wish Center about some of it and she said muscles healing together could cause this. I've been very active. I walk 5 days a week, plus, being 2 months out, i've started attacking my yard to return it to my control. I've started mowing my own lawn and doing a lot of weeding (mostly using a pair of clippers to clip down the large stuff, unless it rained when I can pull things up). I get pain sometimes with food, after eating. I've been very careful with food, chewing a lot. The pain that's the worst is the one toward the right breast and it feels more like it's inside. On a scale of 1 to 10, it's maybe 3, but more annoying than anything else. I read most of the pain and abdominal pain questions, but didn't find anything that fit. I will see a surgeon assocated with the wish center in another month and will ask them, but thought if any of you could give me some ideas? Thanks!! — Laura J. (posted on August 31, 2003)

Laura, could be you are over using those healing muscles just a bit. I
would have similar pains when I walked and bent and stooped and especially
when I lifted something pretty heavy...like my groceries. Muscles take a
while to heal. Now the pain with eating is a whole different thing. Maybe
you are eating too fast. You might be chewing well, but shoveling it in
too fast. I have this problem. Especially when I am distracted...like
watching television as I eat. Checking with your surgeon is a good thing.
Puts your mind at ease. Sounds like you are listening to your body. A
VERY good thing!!
Open RNY 10 mos. post op and minus 190 lbs.
