Question:
Has anyone ever dumped after eating foods that never caused a problem before?
Hi! I am 9 months post-op from my open RNY and had my first episode of dumping last night. I follow all the "rules" re:sugars. Everything that I ate yesterday, I have eaten since my surgery, with no previous problems. Throughout the day yesterday, I consumed a protein shake, 3 eggs, a piece of meatloaf, and a protein bar. My food was spaced out during the day, plus I have eaten all of those foods many times before. I have no idea what caused my dumping. Has this happened to anyone else? Thanks....Kelly 315/191/157 — klinzey (posted on August 19, 2003)

I'm still confused on why that happens, but that happens to me alot. I dump
like every other day and I hate it! I dump trying new things, same things
I've been eating this whole time and sometimes I will dump on the blandest
thing and not on sugary stuff!?! This has been such a wonderful, but
strange journey lol. Good luck!~11mo. post-op open rny lost 126#

This is just a shot in the dark. Could it be that you were about to start
your cycle are is on your cycle and it made you dump. The reason I asked is
because just before I am about to start my cycle and I drink a protein
drink, I dump or gag. But any other time I drink a protein drink I am fine.
I don't fix my protein drink no different than I normally do and I drink
the same kind. So usually when it is that time I don't drink a protein
drink.

yuppers. Happens to me and can't seem to connect it to any event or reason
either. I've wondered if it weren't the particular combination of foods
throughout the day, but that doesn't really make sense either. I'm just
very careful what I eat when I'm out and about lol. Wonderful weight-loss!
Congrats on your success!

Kelly..I sometimes have the same problem. We are all different and our
bodies react differently to certain foods. For me, I cannot eat carbs
first thing in the morning. I will dump every time. Also, I wait at least
an hour after I get out of bed to eat and that seems to help. It isn't a
severe dumping episode when it happens, but its not fun either. I think
for me, the carbs are coverted to sugar quickly since I'm totally empty and
it causes problems. As long as it doesn't happen with everything you eat
and all the time...then just hang in there. Your body is changing and
getting used to all this. If it keeps up though, don't hesitate to talk to
your surgeon about it. Good luck..and the end is worth the journey.

Yes, all the time. It is the most confusing thing about WLS because until
you learn what you can and cannot tolerate all the time, seems we can't
help but "test" the waters. I have dumped on the strangest
things and not dumped on candy! I seem to dump on milk/fat products more
than sugar. But who knows? Tomorrow my little bite of chocolate might do
me in. I dumped the worst I ever have dumped on Suzanne Somers
chocolate....ugh. And it is sugarfree.

Yes! Very strange indeed! I have had a small ice cream cone a few times
about a month ago. Then, yesterday, hubby and I went and got a bite to eat
to celebrate our anniversary...well, I had a small vanilla cone after I had
my dinner and by the time I got home, I had to lay down for 30 minutes as I
was severely nausiated and felt totally drained! Same thing happend last
night when I decided to join my daughter for a small cone. (Ok, I'm off the
ice cream! LOL) It's a good thing, really, as ice cream is what got me up
to 296 lbs to begin with! I used to think that if I had a tiny bit of
something sweet AFTER a regular meal, that I would be ok. (Past experience)
But after yesterday, I guess I am wrong!
