I was in the same boat as you and I am 3 months out. I ended up having to call my doctor and have him give me medicine for nausea and vomitting. We discussed this and they advised me it was normal to have trouble. My advice is to try to stay with what you can keep down and what doesn't make you sick. Water is hard for me as well so I drink brewed ice tea, sugar free koolaide, and crystal light. Hope this helps some.

Rose, congrats on your surgery... not sure what sort of diet you are on, but there are options for protein...try chili (wendy's, canned homemade) there is protein in the beans and some in the meat... just chew chew chew...cheese, cottage cheese...tuna on a cracker...deli meats... And as far as your water intake.. you are still early on.. its tough when you can't gulp as in the past... just keep a glass or water bottle with you all the time... drink a sip or two ever few minutes... it will come... sf popsicles, jello... those things will help keep you hydrated too. good luck in your journey lap rny 4/9/03 311/236/-75

Hello Rose! I just want to let you know that you are normal. I am six weeks out and going through the same thing. Most of the time I can't think about eating. I am only drinking 20 to 30 oz. a day. It is strange, I know what I need to do. But, I just can't physically do it. But it helps me to know that I am not alone. I keep searching to find that I am normal. hehehee. So either we're both normal or neither of us are. Take care! and they tell me it gets better! Hang in there! (((((((((Rose))))))))))

Rose- A few things helped me when I hit that nothing-tastes-like-human-food wall: (1) switched from scrambled to soft-boiled eggs (don't know why, but the soft boiled eggs just taste better); (2) ate chili every few days (Wendy's is good); and (3) nibbled on a few peanuts at a sitting (literally, no more than 6-10 of them). Unfortunately, when you are really in ketosis, the ketones are resident in your saliva-- this totally messes up your tastebuds and, when swallowed, the ketones can cause an upset stomach. But, just keep trying to get in your 60 grams of protein a day-- it is definitely worth it in the long run.

The things that agreed with me were eggs scrambled with mustard in it. Without the mustard it made me queasy! Moz cheese sticks, didn't sour like cottage cheese when chewed well and bland enough not to upset my stomach.

Assuming you are in max ketosis then it is very important to get in as much water as possible to wash the ketones out of your body. Otherwise the end result could be gout which is very painful. <p>As far as protein choices here's what I use/used: scrambled egg with reduced fat cheese, shredded BBQ turkey by The Turkey Store (very low fat and carbs, good protein - tastes awesome); Manwhich made with ground round; cottage cheese; string cheese (still live on this stuff); deli ham, turkey, chicken (use fat free gravy to moisten); add unflavored protein powder to jello and other items; fat free refried beans; whites of hard boiled eggs (yolks only add fat);shrimp. Now I eat lots more but these were all things that I did really well with from 2 weeks on, when I was allowed to go to real food.
