Question:
What are these tests? What do they mean?
I got my Pre-Op scripts today and I am curious about what they are for? CBC, Screen 8(this one especially), LFT's, UA, Urine HCG(this one is for pregnancy??) Can any of these show tobacco use? Thanks — smmeow (posted on August 1, 2003)

CBC=Complete Blood Count, Urinalysis, HCG=Pregnancy. I can't remember LFT's
or Screen 8.

I rememeber, LFT is Liver Function Test, Screen 8 maybe another expanded
version of the CBC (CBC w/ dif?) but someone else online may have to answer
that one.

There's something called a BMP, which is a group of 8 tests that is ordered
as a screening tool to check for conditions, such as diabetes and kidney
disease. This could be what they mean by a Screen 8. I don't know that any
of these show evidence of tobacco use.

CBC= complete Blood Count, Screen 8 probably is electolytes like sodium,
potassium, magnesium, etc. LFTs= Liver Function Test, U/A= urinalysis.
Urine HCG = pregnancy test. None will show tobacco use.

Well it looks like everyone nailed it on the head for ya.......lol I don't
think any of them would show tobacco use but if your surgeon said aren't
supposed to be smoking then you probably shouldn't be, just a thought it
could be dangerous to you for your surgery.
