Question:
I had WLS 6 wks ago, lost 13 lbs in 1st wk, and no more, why??? I do everything asked
I take iron, B-12, muti-vitamin, calcium, 8 glasses of water, exercise daily at Curves and still have lost nothing in 5 weeks since surgery only 6 wks ago. I lost 13 lbs the first week, but nothing since. I rarely eat at all and when I do, its minimal. No sugar! I drink my protein. What else does it take for me to start losing weight. Most have lost 40 lbs by now. I started out at 259. I lost 18 lbs. before surgery on sugar free popcicles (most of what I am only eating now. HELP!!!!! — Frances M. (posted on July 22, 2003)

Sounds like you need to eat more protein. Our bodys go into starvation mode
if we don't eat enough and it will not release the fat. In turn it will try
to store fat.You should be eating 4 small meals a day made up of mostly
protein. Try this and you should see the weight start to come off.

Hi Frances. Everyone goes through this. If you look in the archives you can
see that you are not alone. Even I have had this problem. It will come off
eventually.

You are ok!! Take a deep breath! Almost the same thing happened to me. I
lost 16 lbs in the first 2 weeks and then nothing for 2 weeks. I thought I
was going to be a failure at WLS! But I am here to say that in 5.5 months
I have lost 72, one pound at a time. Yes to most it is slow, but it is
stilll coming off!
Hang in there, as long as you are doing what you are suposed to do you will
be fine!!

"I rarely eat at all and when I do it is minimal . . ." Sounds
like that may be the problem. You are shutting your body's metabolism down
by not feeding it. I know it sounds crazy but you have to EAT MORE to lose
weight. Try to keep your daily calories at 800 or so and eat small,
protein-rich/lower carb meals every few hours. That will help stoke your
metabolism and let your body release the fat. Most of us go thru an early
plateau of some sort, but not eating can make it drag on and on. Hope this
helps!

Hey... you sound like you need to eat more! Not less!! You do have to take
in food/fats to lose fat, okay? Popcicles alone are not enough... even just
drinking your protein isn't enough... you need to get some good fats in...
see my second profile (sharon m. brittain) for a good diet for you to
follow, okay! :~) Hugs!
