Question:
How long does it take for inscision infection to heal?
I am 13 days post op open rny. I have developed a nasty infection in my inscision. My sureeon told me to clean it with peroxide 4x per day. I was wondering if anyone else got infected and how long it took to dry up and heal. — Stacie B. (posted on July 13, 2003)

Wow... my incisions got infected and my doc told me specifically NOT to use
peroxide, just warm water and anti-bacterial soap. It took about four days
to dry up and start healing again. Wow... I wonder why our docs differ so
much about the peroxide? Hmmm....

I've been told for incision infections to use a 1/2 and 1/2 mix of peroxide
and saline. Not to pour it into the wound but to swab it and then allow it
to dry completely before covering IF I covered it. Took about a week or
less to clear up.

I was given 10 days worth of mega antibiotics and told to keep the area
clean with Dial antibacterial soap and water. The doctor also told me when
I took my showers to just stand under really hot, hot water(as hot as I
could stand) and let it hit the infection site for as long as I could. He
said this would help the draining. It took about two weeks for it to
totally stop draining but it felt a lot better in about two days. Good
luck!!
