Question:
I'm concerned about OCD postop..need to hear from others.

My OCD is under really-great control - and its never really been a bad case anyway, rather minimal. Found out today my insurance specifically lists OCD as a reason to not cover this procedure, along with other psych problems like schizophrenia, etc. Saw a post by someone saying they've noticed people with OCD get a whole lot worse after surgery. Can anyone share more info on this? I want to be healthier, but if my OCD spins out of control there will be no "happy" in my "healthy." ... Thanks!    — bethybb (posted on June 18, 2003)

I suffer(ed) from OCD, panic disorder and an anxiety disorder pre-op. My symptoms have been in remission since about 2 months post-op and off meds for it - don't know if my case is special or not but I'm darned happy about it!

Wish I could post anon. but I suffer from trichtilomania - cumpulsive hair pulling...not a great thing when you initially start losing hair after WLS! Anyway, it has gotten much better since I have become (reasonably) thin...I think OCDs are hormonal (and emotional) in a way, and once those are better balanced in the body, OCDs are better managed. Course I'm no doctor, but this is my theory, and I'm sticking with it! Good luck to you...
