Question:
Are most pregnancies after gastric bypass successful? Any complications?
I am pregnant after having gastric bypass surgury almost a year ago. I am just wondering if anyone else has gotten pregnant and has any advise or anything to help me with my pregnancy. — Lori H. (posted on June 2, 2003)

Congrats! I have read that most doctor's want their patients to wait 1-2
years before getting pregnant to maximize the baby's health and nutrition,
but you are close to the 1 year mark, so that's good. I have read many
success stories about pregnancy after wls, even after only a few months.
You can go to the Library here on this site and find more info. There is
also a support group on yahoo. Maybe someone else knows the website link
for that. Good luck to you!

Congrats on your pregnancy!! Yahoo has a support group for expecting moms
after WLS. I can't remember the name, but do a search for pregnancy and
wls. I hope this helps you and good luck!!

My daughter lost 220 lbs. after her RNY and had a great "first"
pregnancy with no problems. Her OB/GYN consulted with our bariatric
surgeon who advised doubling the daily prenatal vitamins and checking a
comprehensive metabolic panel every two months. Her labs were great
throughout the pregnancy....she gained a total of 19 lbs and had already
lost that by her six-week postnatal checkup. She had a healthy, beautiful
8 lb. baby girl, and had a C-section delivery due to big baby/small
pelvis...nothing at all related to her WLS. She had had a lap RNY
previously and there were absolutely no problems related to her C-section
incision. Best wishes to you!

I am just seven weeks out from delivering my first- the only complications
I had were pregnancy related that ANYONE could have expirienced (Induced
due to High BP)... I had a smaller baby (barely 6lbs.), but I delivered two
weeks early and I ate like such a oinker (no holds barred), I cannot say if
that was WLS or if I just have small babies? Had my sone stayed inside
another two weeks, he could have easily been 8lbs. I started at 195, gained
up to 209, dropped back to 200ish. I now weigh 187 and I am trying to get
to my original goal of 155 which was never achieved post op. However, now
that I am a Mother- I have found I do not have time to eat, exercise, or
let alone weigh myself- so I figure I have nowhere to go but down :)

Oh, and I have elevated Alkaline Phospotates (discovered after pregnancy)
so I am having that looked into. I have no idea what it means or if it was
pregnancy related or induced. Can anyone give me a clue on what it means
in laymans terms?
