Question:
LAST NIGHT I WANTED TO SEE EXACTLY HOW MUCH I COULD EAT
I'M THREE MONTHS OUT OPEN RNY. SO WE HAD CHEESEBURGERS ON THE GRILL AND I ATE MAYBE HALF A CHEESEBURGER A COUPLE SPOONS OF BAKED BEANS, AND POTATO SALAD. I WAS SICK FOR ABOUT AN HOUR. MY QUESTION IS, I FELT LIKE I NEEDED TO THROW UP BUT I DIDN'T THROW UP FOOD, IT WAS MORE LIKE CLEAR FOAMY STUFF AND DRY HEAVES. WHY DIDN'T I THROW UP FOOD. OH AND BY THE WAY, I NEVER WANT TO KNOW HOW MUCH I CAN EAT AGAIN LOL — sandy V. (posted on May 28, 2003)

It sounds like what I've heard called "frothing". I don't really
understand what that is, but I hear it's quite common. It happened to me a
couple of times when trying to swallow potassium pills. Just like you, the
pills didn't come up but I "frothed" and threw up foam for about
an hour.

Hi Sandy- I am still a pre-op, and sorry I don't know the answer to your
question. But I would love to hear the answer because I do that
occasionally too. Sometimes I will wake up nauseated, feel the urge to
vomit, but only a sour tasting, pale yellowish foam comes up. Then I
usually feel better. Hope someone knows the answer :o) Mea

my Docs call this "the foamies." They say it's unknown why some
folks get this and some don't. I tend to get the foamies when I eat
spicier food, but not always.

Theres no answer as to why some throw up and others do not. Some get the
foamies and others do not...although you got sick, isn't it nice to know
that the pouch is working and it is intact, limiting the amount you can
eat? Now, don't do that anymore!! Its tough as an early post-op,
especially if you don't measure, to gage when you are full and when to stop
sometimes. I know that a few times, I guessed wrong and had awful pouch
pain for hours, but no throwing up, even though I wished I did and could
get it over with.

Foamies happen to me when I eat something my pouch seriously objects to. I
had a piece of chicken than was real tough and it happened. If I eat too
much I dont throw up but it's seems like I need to go to sleep for about an
hour until things staart to pass thru.

i, too, have wondered why no food is thrown up especially right after
overeating. I just throw up phelgm.

The same thing happens to me if I eat one bite too much or even a tiny
amount of something my pouch doesn't want. I've often wondered where the
food went, and hoped it would come back up too, but it's just that frothy
stuff.

Sandy, forgive me, but I have to ask why you would want to try that?
Probably the same reason I ate Lay's potato chips last week or the week
before...a small bag. I didn't have a sick feeling, but I felt bad
mentally. No one saw me, and I wasn't hiding it...I just felt like I let
myself down and felt somewhat defeated. I "fessed up" to everyone
on the website...under the Q&A, not message board. I was told not to
beat myself up. Now I have it in my mind that it won't happen anymore
because I keep a journal that my therapist asks for. I just don't want to
be "chastised" about it anymore. It's ssoo embarrassing and I
don't want to have that feeling anymore. I pray you don't have that urge to
do that anymore, that would really scare me. PLEASE, don't do that to
yourself. You're three months out and on your way to increased energy and a
pain-free and healthier life. Treasure it! Best wishes on your
journey!!Continue to love yourself and encourage others. I KNOW you can do
this!! LAP RNY 9/3/02 265/159/115-126 Luv, Hadiyah, a.k.a.
